THE PROCESS OF COMMISSIONING A MURAL
by Virginia Kalp-Petit - Kalp Designs, Inc.
The first step is to contact us to explain what you have in mind. We are eager to discuss your plans and help you realize your goals. We can then make an appointment for an on-site consultation - the space has to be visited to estimate cost. (Sites in the surrounding local areas are visited free; a trip fee applies to any visits outside the Golden Isles.)
The first meeting up to one hour is free. In the first hour I will show my portfolio and credentials so you can see my style, body of work and level of skill. We will discuss composition, color schemes and design possibilities. We will measure the space to be painted. I will then email or send you a ballpark price estimate for your approval.
Rendering: Most people would like to see an initial drawing and rendering. Since this takes some time and thought, we have to collect reference material, take photos, refer to our art library for inspiration and ideas, and then come up with the best possible design idea for your project.
Design Concept: After you approve the price estimate, at this stage there is a $250 non-refundable retainer, which will be used for creating the design. This is the image that the client OK’s before the contract is signed. This protects our time and insures that the client is serious and committed to the project. If the artist is free to create at his artistic discretion, there is no design fee!
After the client approves a rendering or sample board, we sign the contract and schedule a starting time.
Contract: A job is only put on the schedule after a deposit is received. There is a 50% deposit required and the 50% balance due upon completion. Kalp Designs is available on a “First come First Served” basis so receiving the deposit ensures a starting date.
Please book your job early. New jobs are continually coming in and may be booked months in advance. If you are on a deadline, please let us know in advance. A projected time frame can be given at the start of the project. Most simple murals can be completed in a few days; more complex ones may take 5-10 working days. (More time spent on the artwork is to your advantage and ensures attention to detail, beauty and quality that will be appreciated for years to come.)
Please feel free to call or email us with any questions. It is our pleasure to serve you.
